06 Aug 12

The 2013 James Halliday Wine Companion has been released. We were delighted to see that eight of our wines scored upwards of 90, and that we have retained our 5 start winery rating. To purchase the O'Leary Walker range of wines online, simply head to Our Wines.

2011 Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc

92 Points
Pale green-quartz; the cool (and wet) growing season and early picking give the wine almost uncomfortable drive and length on the palate, with its bundle of tropical, green grass and citrus flavours wrapped in flinty, minerally acidity. Food recommended.

2011 Polish Hill River Riesling

94 Points
Bright green-straw; the bouquet has lime, apple blossom and talc aromas, the fresh and zesty palate driving through to the finish on the back of lime and mineral flavours.

2011 Watervale Riesling

92 Points
David O'Leary and Nick Walker had 30 years' combined winemaking experience when in 2001 they decided to leave corporate winemaking and do their own thing. The smiles on their faces tell you they did the right thing. Pale straw-green tank sample. A fascinating wine that only starts to reveal its character on the finish, and even more on the aftertaste, that continues to expand its roll call of citrus/lime fruit after there is no wine left in the mouth. I suspect it will merit higher points given a few months in bottle, and will live for a decade.

2008 Claire Reserve Shiraz

94 Points
The attention to detail in this wine is palpable, with ample levels of red and black fruits, florals, fine toasty oak and sappy complexity; medium-bodied and layered, a little time is needed for maximum integration of all parts; the wait is sure to be worth the effort.

2010 Cabernet Sauvignon

94 Points
Bright and essency redcurrant and blackcurrant bouquet, with a lick of toasty oak and cedar; the palate is medium-bodied, fresh and vibrant, with a seductive tannin profile that extends the finish and will provide ageing potential; very good at the price.

2010 Clare Valley McLaren Vale Shiraz

93 Points
Deep garnet; a pleasing and fragrant bouquet revealing mulberry, clove, damsel plums and licorice; the palate is unctuously textured on entry, with zesty acidity and a lingering toasty note from the well-handled oak.

Wyatt Earp Vintage Shiraz

90 Points
Brilliant purple hue, with a vibrant, young, spicy and sweet black fruits; has a very prominent lick of spirit lingering on the finish. Will be interesting to see where this wine will go over time. 500 ml.

2010 Wyebo Adelaide Hills Shiraz

94 Points
Medium red-purple; the aromas of the bouquet and the medium-bodied palate bring red fruits into display alongside black fruits; has spicy nuances and a pleasing, lively lift to the finish and aftertaste.
